Should I fit timers on all my lights?

Looking at the lighting in your home is a great way of making your home dementia-friendly. Lighting is important when you’re living with dementia: improving the amount of light coming in during the day, increasing the light in dark areas with lamps and making sure your bedroom is dark enough that it’s conducive to good quality sleep are all important. Some people find that adding timers helps them to adjust from day to night, so if this is an option for you, it’s worth exploring. However, you’ll have to make sure the time your lights come on and go off is changed regularly to adjust to seasons and clock changes. It’s also worth exploring other technology, too, such as using smart home devices so your lighting can be controlled remotely and sensor lights that come on if you get up to use the bathroom at night.
