Will I lose my job because I have dementia?

If you’re still working and have found out you’ve got dementia, it’s understandable that you’re worried about your job. Dementia symptoms can first become evident in the workplace, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose your job. You have legal rights – dementia is covered under The Equality Act 2010 and The Disability Discrimination Act 1995. Depending on the type of job you do, and if it’s safe for you to continue to work, employers should make adjustments to allow you to carry on working, once you’ve informed them of your diagnosis. Read our articles on working and dementia here and take a good look at the terms and procedures stated in your employment contract.
