What questions should I ask the doctor?

After a dementia diagnosis you’ll probably have lots of questions. It’s a good idea to make a list of these so that you don’t forget anything when you see the doctor. Here are some questions to consider: *What type of dementia do I have? *What symptoms or changes can I expect to experience? *Are there any medications that can help slow the progress – if so, are they suitable for me? *If there are medications that I can take, how quickly should I expect them to work, and are there any side effects? *If I’m able to take medication, how long do I take it for – when should I come for a review? *How do I take the medication – and how do I get a repeat prescription? *Who will be responsible for my care from now on? *How do I make appointments – will appointments be made for me, automatically? Will I get reminders? *What can I do to help myself? *Are there any local services I should be contacting for support? There’s a lot to consider, so take someone along for support and remember a notebook and pen so you don’t forget anything. Some people record the conversation on their phone instead – if you intend to do this, you need to let the doctor know first.
