What is a UK Global Health Insurance Card?

A UK Global Health Insurance Card (or GHIC, as it’s known) replaced the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). If you intend to travel to Europe, Switzerland (and a few other destinations) a GHIC will cover you should you need emergency treatment while you’re away. Your treatment may not be free, but if you do have to pay, you’ll be charged the same rate as local residents pay for state healthcare. A GHIC card is free, lasts for five years, and you can find out more and apply for one here .
