What does the medication do?

Dementia medication helps with symptoms such as memory issues and your ability to think, understand and recall information and facts. It can also help slow the progression of dementia. Some people also find that medication is helpful with issues related to anxiety, concentration and motivation. This means it can be useful in helping you to keep on top of day-to-day activities, such as personal care, eating well and staying active. It’s important to note that not everyone is suitable for dementia medication. Much depends on the type of dementia you’re living with and whether you’re taking other medication or living with other conditions. Your doctor will talk this through with you. If you are prescribed medication, it might take a bit of trial and error to get the type and dosage right. Some people find they experience little or no benefits. Others find they experience side effects and decide that medication is not something they wish to continue with.
