I've just been diagnosed, do I need to plan carers?

Much depends on personal circumstances, but it’s never too soon to think about planning care. Some people with dementia live fairly independent lives with support from friends and family for years, but if you live alone, have limited support and your symptoms mean taking care of yourself is tricky, the answer would be yes. If you haven’t already done so, book a care and support needs assessment with your local authority. Having an assessment can help with accessing extra support, such as home adaptations, physiotherapy and occupational health services. You can read more about this here and you’ll find some useful information about what happens during an assessment on the Independent Age website, here . You can read more about care planning here .
