I'm struggling with my mental health since my diagnosis, who can I talk to?

Firstly, we’re really sorry to hear that you’re struggling emotionally since your diagnosis. But know that you’re not alone. It’s not uncommon for people to experience complicated feelings after receiving a dementia diagnosis and it’s natural to feel very up and down on a roller-coaster of emotions. However, if you feel that your mood is persistently low, it’s important that you talk to someone. Speak to trusted family members and friends about any worries you might have around how your diagnosis might impact you. They might be able to reassure you and help put your mind at rest. You can also access talking therapy. You can do this either by finding a private therapist (ideally with experience of working with clients with dementia) or via the NHS. You don’t need to be referred by your GP, but it might be a good idea to let your GP know if you’re struggling emotionally.
